- Sync all the throttles with new fancy digital 8 channel manometer
Im keen in the medium term future also to finally install a standalone ecu to divorce myself from the Bosch 055 & airflow meter combo. RHD engineering are doing my e34 540 with 16psi and flex fuel, and I'm keen for them to use mine as a template to have a "plug and play" ecu option for the 36pin (with a coil on plug option - if can be done in a visually appealing manner) as there is none, and the old factory hardware is getting very long in the tooth. Not sure how to tackle the flywheel sensors as yet.
Wow, Gaz, among so many interesting and cool things, these two really got me curious- is there any more detail posted elsewhere?
Cheers,
Rob

Link to throttle sync - I have 3 bmw's with ITB now so this tool makes life easy
The standalone ecu will hopefully develop in the new year. ECUmaster and RHD Engineering, who do lots of p&p looms for bmw's here in Australia as well as ITB's and LW flywheels want to add a 36pin ECU option for our cars, to get rid of the pesky old Bosch electronics and troublesome airflow flap meter. From all reports there should be some decent power gains especially on Modified M30's and standard-modified M88/3's. Coil on plug option will give sharp throttle response by all reports for those who have done this already
That's brilliant - thank you. I've got a set of E34 M5 TBs and adapters to go on the B35 I'm building up, but I remember the difference synching the tbs with a manometer on my old M635 made.
Cheers,
Rob

Today was the first real world test of the recent AC system upgrade. I went to my shop for a bunch of administrative chores as well as some errands. After a few hours in the office, I headed out for lunch and errands. I had left the car parked with the windows up so it was Africa hot when I got in. I am talking July in Florida here. It only took a few miles to get cool.
Previously any errands were run with the windows down. Multiple stops made me sweat. Road trips during summer the cool blow would mostly keep me somewhat comfortable, but usually left them down and sped up.

Drove it!
Haven't had chance to use mine for a little while, but yesterday was sunny so I went for a quick run around town.
It went very well. Couldn't help but take a photo.
Looking good mate. I'll be in Canberra (hopefully) for the German Car show late September. Don't what I'm bringing yet, depends whats working or whether the Mrs is coming
Took it on a little road trip. Made the run to Sebring for the SRO GT America event. There's a trend here. Seems like if I get the car out of town it always seems to find this race track.
It was hot and sunny, as expected in Florida this time of year. Car ran great and the air continues to blow cold. Watched a bunch of great GT racing. Had a couple interesting conversations with folks we met. One with the track general manager at turn 3. That one had a lot of insider what's happening information. The other was after a guy complimented me on the car then told me he was with BMW when the 6 was introduced."630, beautiful car, it was a turd" he said. I told him the turbo wakes these things right up. He regaled us with enough stories for me to believe him regarding his involvement in BMW racing at the time. Sadly I did not get his name.
Next is the mundane chore of waiting out another hurricane.
Another year, another MoT passed for my M635CSi - no advisories and it's driving beautifully as well.

1982 BMW 635CSiA (1 of 100's left from the 1000's made and still valiantly fighting against a rusty grave)
We'll, for a while there I thought I might be able to report the loss of another Shark. The mundane task of waiting on another hurricane I mentioned in my last post got real.
The storm surge warning for hurricane Ian was enough to ruin the car, and everything else I own. Thankfully it lives to drive another day. So today I rolled it out to air in the sun when I cleaned up the huge mess in the yard.

I appreciate your offer, Ralph. We are in pretty good shape. I have a mess, but still have everything. I feel for those that lost everything.
Me, I have nothing to whine about.
Glad to hear that the shark pool did not dwindle by one.
Good luck getting everything back in order.

As I said earlier, I have nothing to whine about. If you ask I'll complain about the slow response of my electricity supplier. Slow enough to garner the attention of the governor.

Late night school run and I thought it looked good...

Took delivery of six new inlet manifold rubber bellows for the M635 - these were unavailable for the last few years and my 'The Man' had warned me mine had started cracking when he did the tappets last summer, but acting on a hunch from a different BMW forum I rang BMW and they were in stock at a reasonable price

Picked up another set of BBS rims today. RS740 (5 each). In rough shape but no bends, cracks or repairs. Couldn’t beat the price $250.00 for all 5. Tires are cracked but gonna be replacing after I do something about the lip and faces.
Might sell these after I refinish them. Probably at least a year out though.

I’m scheduled to have knee surgery (my left one) on Monday and I probably won’t be able to drive the 6er for at least a month so I thought I’d take it out for a “last run”. The car is just so satisfying on the open road especially since the manual conversion with all new shifter hardware and the lightweight M5 flywheel. Such great throttle response, quicker to rev and snick-snicking through the gears. I’ll miss it but at least it’s a great incentive to do everything I can for a fast recovery.
Seems like knee surgery season is upon us! I'm getting a knee replacement on Feb 1 and getting ready to take her to drydock for a bit. Good luck on the rehab! I personally can't wait! Of course, then the other knee will get done in May/June. So, it's going to be a fun year.
Well…did a thing today. My sunroof is not permanently (at least for the foreseeable future) a open air moon/stars/sun “roof”. The other clips/cables finally broke.
Since I’m still actively searching (without any luck) for the repair parts, I’ve decided to just remove the sunroof all together. Very easy to do as I have had it off before, but since I don’t drive the car in inclement weather and it’s always under a cover when parked at home; I’ll just have to invest in SPF 100 sunscreen and keep a straw hat in the car.
If anyone out there has come up with a solution for replacement sunroof (doesn’t have to be OEM) please share that info.
Have a great weekend everyone. Aloha’z.

I got a new gas tank and lines fitted - the last of the list of jobs and a consequence of it sitting unused for so long prior to my ownership.
Also a wheel alignment. Didn't think it was bad but it's hugely better. Lighter and more direct. Best NZD $90 I've spent (the tank cost rather more....)
My wife and I sold our house in Michigan and we're roaming the country - currently Florida - in search of a new home. So I'm currently houseless, garageless, and almost completely tool-less. While heading to a new rental in Port Charlotte at nearly the end of a 3 hour drive I pulled off the highway and the car died at the red light. I tried starting it and it sputtered, but did not start. After about 10 attempts it did start, but was sputtering severely. It was just enough to get off the highway and on a side street and it finally gave up. Called Hagarty roadside and waited 2 hours for a truck to show up. While waiting I did a phone search and found a German car repair shop about a mile away! How lucky is that. I called and they said they were booked six weeks out -- our Port Charlotte rental was for a month, so that was not good news. I explained my situation, and they said to drop the car off and they may be able to squeeze it in. When the truck arrived I thought I would give the car one more try, and it started and ran fine... So the driver followed me to the shop (Avenue Garage, Port Charlotte) and the folks there were very accommodating and even said they would park it indoors. They actually started working on the car within a week - awesome.
From my forum reading I was thinking fuel issue. Clogged/worn pump, that sort of thing. What they found: intermittent no spark. Traced it to the ECU, and upon inspection they believed it was cracked/aging solder connections on the board. They were initially going to send it out, but decided to wrap it in foil and put it in an oven to re-flow the solder. Installed it and problem solved! I was ecstatic! I was so lucky to have the issue occur within a mile of a very competent German car repair shop. I should have bought a lottery ticket. That billion dollar award would have been mine. I was very impressed with the technician and the whole shop, so if you have an issue in the area - recommended.
