brake booster installation

Post by jsspagg »

It was easy to remove the brake booster :D

After a rebuild and sitting around for a while it's time to go back in. There seems to be a few things that confuse me including the use of this forum.

I tried to search for a write up on installing a brake booster but can't seem to find what I am looking for. I don't know if it is me, or if this forum is difficult to use as an archive to find and retrieve specific information.

I'd be surprised if no one has done a write-up on "installing a brake booster" but I can't find it. Anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

what is your actual question?

FWIW I google searched "site:bigcoupe.com booster" and pulled up every thread that has had the word booster mentioned in it ever. Maybe some useful nuggets in there.

Kronus- my actual question is what order are things assembled and how to adjust the linkage.
There is the link to the brake pedal that appears it needs to be adjusted prior to installation. Bolt in place and connect to brake pedal.

Was looking to see if someone had a step by step write up of assembly process.

I also did a search for brake booster and saw lots of references to that component but did not find a "how to install" or "how to adjust".

Jeff, I sent you the pages out of the "Big Blue Book" on the brake vacuum booster R&R but will post here as well, just in case anyone else is in need of this info \:D/

IIRC, I don't recall reading anything about adjustments required :-k

Yes, the pedal height adjustment is pure user preference. I adjust mine to make heel/toe feel comfortable.

Hey jsspagg, I'm about to remove my booster on my 83 633 in the next two weeks. Question on the removal of the unit below.

1. Did you disconnect the brake lines and pull the full unit out then disconnect the booster?
2. Did you leave the brakes master connected to everything and just disconnect the booster at the master and the firewall?

Cheers,

I took everything apart. I am also replacing the master cylinder.
I don't know if you would be able to pull the brake booster with the MC in place.
