Is anyone running 8x16 All the Way Around in style 38?
I have 4 style 38's (23mm offset) in 8x16 and am wondering is anyone else running these 8 inch rims all the way around in 16" diameter and if so, are you using two different tire measurements for front and rear to avoid strut rubbing? Help!

Odds are with the offset on those rims, they will rub unless you use spacers

do I need 5mm or more to use these rims? I would prefer to find some style 38's (kinda like a plainer version of style 5) in a 7x16 -anyone know which BMW's had these? Thanks!

Minimum offset you need is a 20 offset The rears are slightly more forgiving but with a 23 offset the rear tires will look "lost" in the wheel well

Thanks, so sounds like I will need at least 5mm spacers - anyone know a good source for these spacers and will need to compensate with longer wheel bolts as well I suppose, thanks

Use 10mm spacers, minimum. BMW wheels are hubcentric, that is, the wheels are centrally located on the hubs, not by the lug bolts. A 5mm spacer is too thin to have an adequate nose (hub) machined on the wheel side to center the wheel, but is too thick for the nose of the hub to protrude far enough to safely center the wheel.

I also had (slight) tyre rub interference, so run these, with the longer lug bolts, one on each wheel being a lock bolt.

Turner specify 90 ft/lbs torque for lug bolts, so I always torque and check them after a short spin.
In our land regs require spacers to be mechanically fixed to the wheel or mounting surface so I drilled and tapped a short 5mm hole each wheel / spacer for a countersunk screw. Never had any problems but they do make the steering heavier.
I recall at the time reading concerns raised around the use of 10mm spacers, see this :

Keep a set of standard lug bolts with your spare

Sounds like I will be going with 20mm offsets and of course longer rim bolts -hopefully this will prevent any strut rub, I believe the style 38's must have been on on 740 cars which most likely had deeper wheel wells? From a appearance standpoint, tires should be slightly behind fender lips for clearance - never had to fiddle with tire rim combinations before so apologizes for all the questions

5mm spacers should be enough I am running 8X17 wheels with 20mm offset and it clears, just by a little, the strut

8" is 8" 'regardless of height of tire. I would mount up a tire and see if it clears that will tell you what you need to know

Great, what are you running in Pilots in the front and rears? Or same profile/dimension all the way around? Thanks

Same profile on all corners. Makes rotating the tires easy You don't have that ability if you are not square. Tires are Pilot Sport 2's I personally don't see any reason to go larger on the rears.

Thanks, what size exactly are you running so I can duplicate what you are using as a starting point -what width/aspect on your 16inch rims -many thanks!
