ABS light on

Post by Emmanuel M6 »

Greetings everyone hope you and yours and your rides are well.
The story so far:
Abs light came on intermittently. Had an electrician look at car and he got light off. Few days later it was back on. Time passes and now light is always on.
Replaced all 4 sensors and had reluctor rings checked and cleaned. Abs light still on.
Where do i go from here please ?
Thanks. 1985 euro M635

Greetings bac, Emmanuel.
If, when your fault was intermittent, the fault only occurred over a certain speed, then this issue is most likely down to the deteriorating condition of the ABS sensor hub rings on the rear axle (no matter how clean they might be)

Otherwise, this thread may help....

What did the electrician do that made the light go off, albeit temporarily? Or was it nothing specific?

Easy to miss rear reluctor ring actually broken, despite appearing okay with superficial inspection.

Thank you very much for responding. Unfortunately I'm not able to tell you what he did; when I tried to get him back to look at the car again he went quiet. Emmanuel

Thank you for getting back; my grand plan is to have the underneath of the car sorted next year. This includes diff refurbishment; I could have the reluctor rings changed then right? Emmanuel

Fronts are integral part of wheelbearing. I have changed a fair number of these, but never seen a bad reluctor ring - possibly just luck on my part, or they are better able to withstand corrosion??
