Door Seals

Post by cowboybob52 »

Bumping a new post as I've seen several threads on door and window seals, but most seem to be a bit dated and I suspect the market is worse than it was a few years ago.

I need door seals 51211861501 and 51211861502 for my 1980 633. Zero luck flushing these out Anywhere. Have even been looking for used parts in decent condition...alas, found one E24 in Minnesota but wouldn't you know it, they'd already poached the door seals. Would appreciate a lead.

Cheers,
Bob

No joy on this post, so...the other option which comes to mind, short of finding a used part somewhere (no luck so far), would seem to be to look at other models with frameless windows (3.0CS seems to be the most likely I've come across so far...although the diagrams I've found are not the best so unsure if that's even correct) and see if i could find the door seal for that car. If the cross section is similar enough, plan would be to dissect and splice useful cross sections to repair. My seal is in decent repair inside the door with the exception of the upper portion with the window channel. There are a few custom shops around that will run seals here in the US, but have found none with BMW lines. Thanks for any leads.

I bought a new driver seal a couple years ago. Don't recall the source offhand.

Thanks for the reply. It would sure be great if you could dredge up where you found them although, if present experience prevails, they are long gone and not available....but turning over every rock I find. I'd even take a used one if was in decent condition. I have a plan to do a temporary fix as I found some weather strip with a reasonably similar cross section and will try to splice it into the carcass of my damaged seal as much of the lower and side sections are serviceable...but am under no illusions it will last indefinitely.

Cheers,
Bob

I'll look for it. I should have a record. Hopefully it is not like the hood/trunk light fixtures I got a few years back that are NLA.

that would be great Ross, thanks for the effort. Dome light lens is same for mine...it got brittle and cracked. I have attempted to scan and 3D print a new one with limited success. I have repaired the old one to some degree but it sure would be nice to find a new one, much like the seals. If it wasn't mechanically in such good shape with an engine rebuild and 4-spd trans replacing the 3-spd auto, and a body with little rust, I'd seriously think about parting it out. But have had it toooo long and it's really a hoot to drive with all the upgrades, would seem criminal to do that. I've also thought about just making it into a full blown track car, and quit worrying about all the little nitnoid stuff I'm trying to fix to have a nice ride for long trips. We'll see how it all plays out with this summer's work on it.--BP

I got the driver side from FCP Euro in 9/22. P/N 51211861501 for $360 at the time. I see it is back ordered there with no ETA.

Yessir, that was one of my first stops...pretty much the same at all the major vendors. Thanks for checking though.

I just found in my stash what appears to be a good used Passenger (Right) side perimeter door seal. Sorry but I did not find a matching driver side. PM for interest
