Looking for a black leather auto T bar lever for a 1988 Highline 635CSi
The one on my car, while still working seems to have 'lost' the spring that operates the small plastic release lever under the T bar.

Can't find the spring? If it's not shown separately on realoem, there's always McMaster-Carr

Re: Automatic Gearbox Shifter Lever
Hi, I have one that I sourced from somewhere like Lithuania that is a used OE part but has been recovered in new leather. I was going to put it in my car (an 88 Highline), but felt it looked too new!! I also bought a recovered handbrake handle cover and didn't fit that for the same reason, but that now resides in one of Wattsmonkey's cars.
Where do you think this spring is or is not but is meant to be? Under the T bar rocker? Short of taking off the one still on my car I'm slightly struggling to work out what is meant to happen when the rocker is depressed. I can see that it will move a thinnish rod in an upwards direction, but even on mine it doesn't seem to have a positive spring back action other than to a very limited degree when not far off flush with the body of the handle.
You're more than welcome to have the handle to try, but it cost me quite a chunk of money so don't really feel I can let it go for nothing.

A piece of foam was used to make the spring action in the button. Simply cut into a wedge form and inserted between the button and the handle

So is the suggestion that the piece of foam may well have deteriorated or even fallen out? And that putting in a new or extra piece would most likely work?Ralph in Socal wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 4:11 pm A piece of foam was used to make the spring action in the button. Yes. Might have to experiment a little to get the right amount of spring actionplip1953 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 6:56 amSo is the suggestion that the piece of foam may well have deteriorated or even fallen out?
