Remove centre console panel
Does anyone know if this plastic panel comes out separately and easily? If so, what's the best technique?
I'm just trying to secure a USB in place of the cig-lighter...
cheers. Ben

Re: Remove centre console panel
its held in with like 4 screws. Not too bad.
Removing the center console is bad though.
You can do it in about 30 minutes once you know where the screws are.

So whole console has to come out and then the plastic is screwed to that?

Re: Remove centre console panel
If you are talking about the louvered panel, on my 81, the panel has 2 tabs at the top that clip into fasteners. It can be brittle, so go slow. However for a later car they are readily available.
PM Sharkski. He is always parting cars and can tell you if this applies to a later car. By the way, my panel doesn't have screws

Re: Remove centre console panel
It’s not easy to get that panel out. You have to remove the whole console, like in the picture.
But, you can easily replace the cig lighter unit without removing the panel. Just lift off the shift boot, and you can reach under and get behind the cig lighter unit and push it out.
(That applies to the Series 2 cars that have the console like in your picture. The Series 1 cars are completely different).

Yes the whole console has to come out. To get the upper part out you have to remove the part around the shifter and brake. and the side panels in the foot well. if you have a short shifter kit installed you will need to remove that too.

guessing that doesn't apply, or is as simple with an auto?Jubilados wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 11:46 pm It’s not easy to get that panel out. You have to remove the whole console, like in the picture.

Re: Remove centre console panel
Yes, not sure about an automatic.
I’d guess the automatic handle and the surround can be removed from above (the equivalent of taking the shift boot off on a manual), that would make sense. But that’s just a guess.

Re: Remove centre console panel
So the question is (I have an automatic) Other than removing the shift selector grip) where are the magic 4 screws that hold the whole thing together? I need center louvered grill out so I can access scres that will allow me to remove fascia frame so I can remove OBD keypad in order to install a new display, help! Need to get this out without breaking plastic
Cheers!
