Euro Conversion Complete :) (85% Complete, atleast)

Post by BottleNoseShark »

wow.. An entire year later and the euro conversion has come to a close. There is some trim work on the back to be done over the winter but all in all I am incredibly happy - so here's some photos I took to celebrate!

Nice indeed, but it appears that you only converted the front :-k

While you didn't post any pix of the full rear end, sure looks like the US side bumper surrounds still installed :-"

And are you the guy with the ultra rare shade of green that most of us (I for one...) have never heard of [-o<

Keep us posted on your progress \:D/

Rear bumper is actually euro! I took the NA Valence and attached it to the rear EU bumper. The tricky part, however, is the trim pieces you've mentioned. I've put the US trim back on for now to plug the body holes and the weird gap the bumper left while I problem solve next steps. If you have any reccomendations I'm all ears! ( Please help [-o< ) Here's a photo of the back.

And yes, Platenengrun Metallic green.. I've only ever seen it on one other e24 that also happened to be an 86' (Coincidence?) and a random e30 from 1985 oddly enough.
listed on bimmertips as "188 Platanengrun Platana Green Metallic Green" but the "Platana" part is left off of my paint sticker in the engine bay.

Looks good.

I'm surprised you went with a S1 rear bumper on your S2? Are you going to fill the holes on the rear 1/4 panels and then re-paint?

Can you share pics of your front bumper mounts?

This is the set I designed and fabricated:

You helped more than you know! Not only the direct messages, but I can proudly say I can account for 20% of the views on your youtube videos for the EU conversion singlehandedly. =D>

grabbed a pair of series 1 bumpers from a guy in Edmonton, 3 hour drive from me. They came up for sale about a week after someone had hit the left side of my bumper while street parked, no body damage amazingly but in hindsight I jumped on buying the bumpers a little too quickly - got a deal atleast.

plan is to fill and paint yes, but first I need to figure out if im biting the bullet on a series 2 bumper and redoing the back, or if I am going to get some fab work done to fill in the gaps. From your surprise it sounds like sourcing a S2 might be less of a headache

For the front bumper mounts, I reached out to the guys at classiceuroparts and they actually had a prototype design for US to EU front brackets - told them my measurements, they lined up more or less, and they sent me a pair which had a real nice fit and finish for a product that hasn't been sold publically, atleast yet. They were too long in the arm by about 1.25 inches, and needed an additional hole drilled to mount to the bumper in a way I would feel secure with, so they took a bit of work to get right. All in all saved me tons of time welding and fabricating, especially since I don't know how to weld lol - would definitely recommend them, and if I was to ever do this again I would re-make that purchase for sure.

You need to find pix of an early Euro car rear bumper, wherein you will see the rubber filler pieces that fill those gaps between the end of the bumper and the rear quarter panels :-"

But either way, S1 or S2, you are going to have to fill in those 6 holes and repaint :-({|=

I personally like the wraparound appearance of the Euro S2 rear bumper, but your call, of course \:D/

I've been buying parts from ClassicEuro for the past 4 or 5 years for my E24s and also my 126 Benzs.

They are really great and have been extremely happy with their service and quality of their products. Their prices are very fair as well.

That's cool that they make these brackets! You have the Beta version, which is neat.

Congratulations! It's quite a transformation.
