WTB - 635 or M6
Hi All, I'm new here, so I hope it's OK to post on the local forum.
I am looking for a nice clean e24 as a road car. Manual preferred, and low kms a must.
Any cars for offer, leads or suggestions where to look appreciated!
Thanks,
Toby

Hi Toby
Welcome to the forum. Where are you located? There are registers kept in some states of E24 owners we may be able to put you in touch with someone that can help you find a car. Do you have a budget in mind, local M635s are appreciating quickly?
Cheers
Dave

Re: WTB - 635 or M6
Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. I am in Sydney, but happy to get the right car from interstate.
I know the M635's are on the move, but don't know what an OK would cost. I probably could afford one, but not really interested if it's 3 times the price of a great 635.
Thanks again Dave. Please let me know suggestions.
Cheers,
Toby

WHATEVER YOU DO DONT BUY A E12 BASED!
Re: WTB - 635 or M6
HI Griffo,
Thanks for that. Looking for an e28 pre world bumper car.
Just out of interest, why not the e12?

Hi Griffo,
As an E12 owner, and having not owned an E28 car, I probably can't make a full comparison but:
- E28 parts seem easier to get
- the E12 has the M90 motor and more responsive injection mapping
- the E12 doesn't have a sunroof making for a stronger chassis
If you don't want to pay for an M car and want a fun car to drive, not a bad choice?

Re: WTB - 635 or M6
I've got an e12 car and have always loved it. The e12 is hamstrung with a lack of diff options. LSD's for the sideloader on the e12 are rare. The e28 has a huge choice of LSD's in a large range of ratios. I guess Griffo is referring to the diff selection.
Trev is right regarding the M90 engine. Shorter stroke, larger bore, it can be built into a 3.9 litre monster using the E3 3.3l crank or a 3.7 litre monster using the M30 crank.
Elis once told me (him having owned an e12 633 prior to his current baby pooh beast, an e28) that the E12 chassis drives like an older E9 coupe while an e28 drives like a modern BMW. I am positive mine drives like an older aged car, a bit like any 70's Aussie car.
Still, if you are not after a modern feel and a huge selection of diffs, the e12 chassis is a beautiful ride.

Re: WTB - 635 or M6
Thanks for the welcome!
It's an '86 build, so e28. Nice condition overall, needs some suspension/steering attention, plus a few minor electrical fixes.
Buffalo hide has drunk two full bottles of leather conditioner - so far, but is starting to look great.
Paint has had two washes, full clay resin polish and final polish - pretty good so far.
Dave, I'll work out how to post photos when I have some!
Very happy!

That buffalo hide can be thirsty if it has been neglected. Try Leatherique prestine clean and rujuvinator oil.

Re: WTB - 635 or M6
Thanks Dave,
I am using Auto Glym Leather Conditioner. Seems to be doing the trick. I think once I have three bottles into it we will be in pretty good shape (2 1/2 so far...)
BTW I just texted you a couple of pics.
