BBS RS Center Hex Nut: How Tight?

Post by LarryM »

I have a set of BBR RS198s and have always wondered how tight the large center hex nut is supposed to be. I usually use the BBS hex wrench to snug them down, but is "hand-tight" without a wrench good enough? There are really only several plastic threads that engage to hold them on, and it would probably be easy to strip them if you went a bit too far with the torque. Opinions?

I decided to contact BBS and get the answer directly from them. They advised to get the nut hand-tight, then use the BBS wrench to turn it about 1/8 additional turn. That's about what I expected, and what I've been doing all these years. So far I've never had one fall off.
