Pinstripe installation location

Post by rhanley 635csi89 »

Hi All,
We'll be installing new pinstriping, width of the stripes 3mm and 2mm.  I've read and have seen pinstriping located above and below the coachline.  Did BMW have a preferred location?
Should the 3mm stripe be at the top, starting below the coach line. then a 2mm space with the 2mm stripe following the space, appears to be the USA standard.

Or should the thin strip be on top see photo?

The wide pinstripe of Euro cars appears to start above the coach line.

So is the USA thin stripe pinstriping installed above or below the coach line?  Which size is on top?

My car is an 89 635CSiA, Alpine Weiss II, Havana Buffalo leather seats, door cards are Havana brown and beige (panel).

Pinstripes are (thin 2mm) dark beige and (3mm) dark brown.

Thank you in advance.
Roger

Looks like I made a mistake from the pictures shown. I was thinking of a Euro which has the stripes above the belt line. Sorry for the wrong info

I can show you a hundred e24 fender photos and you'd be hard pressed to find duplicates.
Whatever they were feeling on assy lines/dealer lots etc is what they did IF at all. NO specific spec as far as i could see from hundreds of photos i have. Caught my curiosity once while at SESF and took shots of every car. If I remember only two cars were the same.
only euro stripes if equipped ,although differing colors, are same
So Whatever looks good to you!

Had mine replaced after some fender work, installed below the fold.
Not original specs though. These are 2mm top and bottom and the black and orange were not original colour combos either.

But I like it better this way, very Deutchland!

I’m interested in just the Euro stripes front spoiler decal.
So if anyone is interested in the side stripes but not the spoiler (commonly done, since the spoiler stripe doesn’t work well in the US spoiler or non spoiler E24s), let me know.we can split up one of Bert’s kits.
