Just sharing the outcome of the weekend: I repaired the passenger rear floor pan which had rusted pretty badly. Pulled up the carpet and used the POR-15 product to essentially rebuild the floor board.
First step was getting in there and wire brushing off all the loose rust. Didn’t cut any pieces out unless they would break off by hand or with a hard brush application. Then I did the metal clean and prep steps before applying any POR-15 product.
I didn’t have the mesh screens that you can get in a POR-15 kit, because I mistakenly purchased the wrong kit. So I got some thin-grade fiberglass mesh at the hardware store to fill in the missing pieces. I cut patch pieces of the fiberglass mat to fit over the gaps, then used the POR-15 patch repair (thicker product, in a tube) to coat the patches on both sides. Laid them down and stuck them in place with more patch repair, then planted a layer of POR-15 paint on the whole thing.
It seems to have done the trick, as the floorboard is now solid and hopefully leak-free. We’ll see how it lasts but for now I am happy and my rear seat carpet is dry-
