Phase 1 Complete

Post by L.Tigre »

Front end rebuilt including control arms, tie rods, center link and thrust arms. Differential mount replaced. New clutch including slave cylinder. Turner/Conforti chip. Fixed odometer, speedometer, hand brake, both inside door handles and dash overlay. Fixed passenger-rear rusted floor pan. New Momo steering wheel and shifter knob. New Blaupunkt SQR 46 stereo and new direct-wired speakers, including repainted rear speaker mounts. And finally today: refurbished ACT 16" mesh rims with Continental tires.

This is the end of Phase 1.

Looking sharp! Do I see rear head rests? Post a photo of the rear seating area when you have a chance.

Plus 3 on that =D>

You'll have to tell us more regarding the interior, a combination of black and beige/tan, including the dash

Interesting steering wheel as well, don't think I've ever seen that one :-k

Once again, congrats on completing phase 1 \:D/

Thanks all for the comments. Yes...about that interior color palette:

When I purchased the car a couple months back it had re-done black carpet and black refurbished Recaro front buckets and refurbished rear seats also. They are solid and newly done, and I kinda like them. BUT, they throw a few things off-kilter. The interior was previously tan... and so you see the tan plastic center trim to match. Basically, with black carpet and black seats, the color schema was (and still is) off.

I made the executive decision to go with tan on the dash overlay. vs the black original. In some respects it works; it makes the rest of the tan trim look a bit less out of place. But it tans up the interior a lot. And as you can see, not a great color match of the original tan and the dash-overlay tan. (I may go back to black someday. Especially if I can get all black everything including center trim, rear-dash carpet and footwell side carpets.)

I took the liberty of repainting the decrepit rear speakers mounts from tan to black, just to hide some of the cracks and wear. After all, when you've already got a mixed bag what's one more step? Unlike the dash which I'm unsure of, the rear speakers feel right to me. (note the armrest 'pillow' between rear seats was badly warped; I'm replacing with basic piano-black plastic inlay soon...)

In the end this is not and maybe will never be a pristine like-new restoration. It's just not that car. It's a bit unique, a bit raw with a very slightly hot-rod feel, and I have come to appreciate it that way.

Ah, the things I ponder on a Wednesday...

It looks great, brings the car more current. I would like to see the dash black. Front & rear consoles tan. Rear shelf and speakers great. I have a similar color combination, Havana brown seats, dash and tan consoles. Rear head rests as well. We're about an hour apart, I'm in Asheville.

I'm kind of digging the beige dash.

Cool, good to know there are (semi)-local 6er fans here. I get up to the Cashiers NC area to fish as often as I can.

Post a few pics of that interior if you can. Given the black-and-tan I inherited, I’m always interested to see how others have done interiors.

My interior is currently out of the car, goal is to have car complete at the end of October. We fly fish in Tn. with a guide, never considered Cashiers, I'll have to look into it.
