I've got a steering gear leak on my '88 635, and I haven't been able to crawl under it yet. The car lives in Reno NV at the airport, when I'm in town, but otherwise it sits. I'm flying down there today, and am bringing aluminum and copper seal washers, as well as some extra rubber return lines.
If this leak isn't from one of those locations, and it's from the seal on the bottom of the steering gear, where the pittman arm bolts on, I suspect its not going to be easy maintenance I'm going to be able do without all the tools in my shop.
Does anyone have suggestions on a shop in Reno NV that would be capable of pulling and replacing the seals in the power steering gearbox? Since its not just a pull/replace for the whole gearbox (we all know they're either unobtanium, expensive, or both), I question some of the capabilities of the modern "parts-changer" mechanics.
I'd really appreciate any thoughts from you guys. Thanks-
