Mwrench Steering Fix

Post by TimothyMcHone24 »

Does anyone know if Ed over at mwrench is still making/selling the steering fix kits? Getting into another shark and want to install one from the jump if possible (seeing as otherwise it's all but guaranteed to go bad).

I bought 2 from him about 6 months ago.
Send him an email to check his stock levels.

Well I reached out but hadn't heard back quite yet. Was kind of curious if anyone knew. I'm probably just being impatient though is all 😂. It's not been long at all since I emailed him. Appreciate ya though! Oh you've got a good strong name btw 👍 lmao

Yep, just be patient and follow up again if you need to. He's an enthusiast who builds these in his spare time.
I can say the quality and construction is top-notch - It's worth the wait.

Yup most definitely! It's awesome honestly that he even does it. I had a great experience the last time I bought it from him in the past. It really is top notch stuff.

I spoke to Ed about these recently, as he's planning on moving on from making these awesome kits :(

However, all is not lost, as we are looking into other plans, making the specs and drawings available to be made on your own (or local machine shop) for a small fee [-o<

The fee would go to Big Coupe as part of the cost of keeping the site up and running :-"

I have to talk to Brian about getting this sorted, as his last site updates removed the possibility of making donations, and once he's got that back on line, we can proceed with the Mwrench steering box fix plans \:D/

More to follow, but yes, do try and reach out to Ed directly for now, as he may still have kits available :-k

Ohhh okay, well that'll be great when you all get it sorted and setup. I know I'll be buying! It's things like this that make this community amazing imo.

Any updates on this? Just connected with a new 6er owner and pointed him to Ed’s site only to realize he’d stopped doing them (feeling very thankful I got mine when I did.)

Ya know, I don't have the best news, and need to reach out to Ed again 8-[

The last time I called him (a while ago) I left a VM and he never returned my call :-?

I'll try again [-o<

Bummer. It would be a real shame to lose this to the winds of time - I'm sure there was not a ton of demand, but there are still a lot of these cars out there and as I learned today even enthusiast owners who don't realize what they are dealing with when encountering this issue.

OK, I just tried to call Ed and it went right to voice mail, not good :-?

Hopefully he will call me back this time, he could have just been on another call [-o<

But I will report back, regardless of what I found out :-k

Anyone have an uninstalled kit? We can model it after those dimensions.

To answer your question, It's my understanding that Ron in the UK has some kits still available :-"

But I have much better news, as I spoke with Ed earlier today \:D/

He's been dealing with some "male plumbing" issues, and while I'm no spring chicken either, he's turning 82 in October

And while he is out of the steering box repair kit business, he has passed on the torch to another local here in CA, who is already producing

Ed promised me that he will send me all of the info in a day or so, which I will duly post here in Big Coupe, likely in a few places [-o<

He also mentioned that while reverse engineering the kit sounds relatively simple, he advised against it, as previous attempts have been unsuccessful, for various reasons. he thinks that some didn't fit well after attempts to reweld the existing stock bracket, which requires subframe removal in order to be done properly :-k

His kit can be welded in from underneath with the subframe in place, as many already know 8)

So, more to follow, and very soon I hope \:D/
