Fuel regulator

Post by gilach »

Folks, I need help identifying the item circled in blue shown in the pictures. It's in line to the fuel regulator on the rail. Thanks in advance. It's a 1981 euro model.

I had an 82 Series 1 chassis car that had that additional regulator. I think it's an adjustable pressure regulator used to compensate for poor fuel quality in the 70s and 80s. The car ran fine without it but since it was cleanly added I left it in place

Thanks Ralph. I think you are correct. I did check realoem.com, but no dice. My car is hesitating, and I have switched out the fuel filter and pump and decided to check out the regulator as a culprit. The item circled looks original. I'm going to by pass it and see if it makes a difference before checking the regulator on the rail.

My 81 euro with Motronic, 1.0, uses the same regulator. It is 2.5 bar and and Ljet systems use the same one. The post 81 cars use a 3 bar . Unless your regulator has been replaced, it shouldn't be adjustable. My 81 Euro was 99% original and the pressure regulator was "fixed". The other thingy Ralph mentions, is called a vibration damper, and is in line before the regulator. I left it out when redoing the fuel system and as far as I can tell has no adverse conditions

Ok, took it off the car today. You guys are right, it's a regulator/fuel damper. Found one on line for big $. See link below. I removed it, and it appears to be the source of hesitation. So I plan to leave it off for now.
