Thanks! Was doing 70 on the highway yesterday felt super strong. Some minor things, headlights didn't stay on, driver window needs help closing correctly, but runs perfect no work to be done there! Loving this color which I was not sure about, but at this price was ok with it. TBH was totally shocked I won the auction.

What wheels are you running 16" RC090?

Please explain what happens with the headlights in greater detail [-o<

My wheels are E34 Throwing Stars from that vintage M5, staggered 17 x 8 fronts and 17 x 9 rear, polished =D>

Headlights worked fine at first then after using the brights they wouldn't when switched to normal beam no head light tho all worked in high. Next day no headlights but after driving 10 mins they were on again. I think it coincides with losing power to the cigar lighter which is noticable cuz phone I had google maps on and the screen times out when power goes out. Hopefully something simple, the blinker relay was out and the shop owner fixed it for free. Gonna put another 20 or 30 miles on this weekend then head back to shop with a list of findings.

Wheels are 15" bbs basket weave in original grey with new tires, would prefer them polished. Would it be cheaper to sell these and buy polished wheels or have these refinished? Would prefer 16s but don't wanna do a whole new tire package.

Strange behavior regarding the headlights for sure :-?

Me thinks maybe either the low and/or high beam relays are intermittently working :-k

They are both in the fuse box, maybe swap out the horn relay with the others one at a time and see if the problem goes away, presuming your horn works :-"

As far as the wheels are concerned, tough call since they are only 15's :|

16's and 17's are more popular these days, but it may be possible to sell yours as a wheel/tire set to an E9 owner, which would be more period correct for the early coupes \:D/

Headlight problem has disappeared, horn works fine so could try that but heading back to shop tomorrow with my list of issues after putting on 75 miles in past couple days. I also get a weird sound from the wheels when coming out of a red light, maybe the breaks? Goes away as I accelerate. I get a similar sound on slow 45 degree turns.

The always difficult wheel decision is what style and color. I like the deep lip polished RC090 but everyone has them. The Alpina wheel is pretty classy and this safari tan gives the car an older more 70s look IMO and want to stick with that theme. Will wait for the new air dam and decide once that's done. For sure I'm not crazy about the grey. Need some shine down there.

I think the wheels look great on the car as they are.
15s are a bit small on the later E28 chassis 6 series cars, but they are an inch bigger than the original 14s that came on your car, so look good. Esp. on your car, which as you say, has more of a 70s vibe. I think a 17 inch wheel like the Style 5/RC090 would ruin the look.
Seems like a fair price on the car. Automatic and color combo are not what most are looking for so held bidding down a bit.
Looks like a nice car!

Yeah I'm actually ok with the 15s and the basket weave, it's the dull gray that I'm not in love with. I wasn't crazy about the paint color during auction but bid low anyway and for the price was happy without seeing it in person. Then it arrived and I absolutely love the color in person. The interior is in great shape.

I think getting the air dam and fogs and adding period correct pin stripe Dekor 4 (light brown over Dark brown) might add just enough sportiness that I stick with the grey wheels. Not sure a boot spoiler is right for this color combo. Found pinstripe chart at this thread: viewtopic.php?t=26602

The wheels match the appearance of the original wheels, except for being 15 instead of 14.
For that reason, I think they are very good looking.
The air dam isn’t really “correct” for the year, but it does make the car look a lot better. The lack of an air dam on the US cars was weird back then!

Yes seems when they tacked on the awful US bumpers they just abandoned the air dam, but it was on euro cars of the era. I believe the one I'm buying, from this shop owner's own parts car, is off a euro '79 633. I will confirm, going tomorrow. In that sense it'd be period correct just a hybrid I of US / Euro. Good enough for now and the look is vastly improved.
