Thinking About Making Bumper Tuck Brackets for US Bumper Cars

Post by Slownrusty »

Guys and Gals - I have received quite a few requests to fabricate bumper tuck brackets for the US cars to give the bumpers the same sleek look as the Euro cars. I would like to see who from this forum might be interested.

Details:
1) The "kit" will be the brackets for the front and rear bumpers.

2) Will re-use all stock mounting mounts, no cutting or welding required. Will also re-use all the stock bolts

3) The brackets will be made out of aluminum and will be strong but will be 12-lbs lighter than the OEM steel park bench bumper brackets

4) 100% bolt-in, installation time less than 1-hr for both bumpers once you remove your bumpers. Installation instructions incl.

5) Total kit (front and rear) - $400

Pictures.

Yasin, interested, VERY interested

Can you please provide photos of how much clearance there is between the front and rear/side bumper surrounds, and a side shot of the factory front air dam as well [-o<

My fear is that there will be too much space between the surrounds and actual bumper, once the tuck is completed :-k

Thanks for doing this \:D/

I agree with Bobbo, with the bumpers tucked in the side cover gaps are too large and don't line up.
In lue, most swap Euro or World Bumpers, Euro being the much more difficult swap.

Well I posted this on the Facebook E24 group and had over 50 interested owners in 24-hours.
So I guess I need to get cracking on this.

Bob - To answer your question, the rubber trim and accordion can be trimmed so that it all flows and does not look odd. This is somethings that you can do at home and very simple. Here are some pictures of the front of my car after I trimmed the rubber trim.

That does look better. So these will be like modified brackets after collapsing the shocks
to align the airdam easier?

I would really need to see these mods in much closer detail :-k

I've had these off and really don't see how you did the modifications :-?

Hmm, maybe I need to fly to Houston, I can visit my bro while I'm out there :-"

You have to remove the factory bumper shocks and my new brackets replace those. I will be adding new adjustable aluminum flat bar supports to allow for better alignment of the front spoiler (which replaces the OEM steel ones).

You're welcome anytime my friend!! For Houston area owners, I will install these at a drastically lower cost on your car, basically drive in, give me a few hours and drive it home with the new sleeker look!

May be an odd question but, would the year matter? Seeing how the 88/89 have a different appearance, i was just curious.

I would need an '88 or '89 to trial fit.

I made these for the '83 to '87 cars.

Thanks,
Yasin

Sounds great. It's in the works, not quite ready for primetime as I am working on some other projects at the moment. Once ready I will let you know. If you drive your car down from Dallas, I will install it for you at my shop.

Looking forward to meeting you as well.

My best,
Yasin

Great. Let me know of an appropriate day and time so I can prepare for a trip down to Houston.
I've been watching your work on the E24s. Amazing, especially on the M635s. I just acquired an '85 M635, and love to learn from you!
By the way, may I have contact phone or email?
