The Fleet Review

Post by sharkfan »

Well it's that rare occasion when everything's working (just  ) and a day with a little time on my hands to carry out a wee Fleet review; from left 1993 M5 Touring, 1985 M635, 1993 TVR Griffith 500, 1982 635CSi and a 2001 Audi S3.

Yes, I know the missus and I are very lucky, but believe me, we count our blessings every single day :D

Hope you like the pics 8)

Great googely moogely!!

That is an impressive & beautiful fleet of vehicles! A marvellous collection of desirable and really quite practical cars. Congratulations, I admire what you have achieved.

Regards,
Ellis.

may I ask, what is the New Zealand reference?

Not quite Ivan  Everyone thinks we have a pile  but the truth is we bought a house at the bottom of the market that had been empty for a year - similarly the BMW's were all relatively cheap; 3k 10 years ago, 6k 2 years ago and 4.5k a few months back - and two of the five cars are similarly in lieu of a company car and hence outside the normal budget :D

The New Zealand reference is technophobe mishap - we've just had a holiday there and the sooper-dooper wiz-bang camera-memory-card-stick-thing might have been labelled New Zealand whilst I was fiddling, and now I don't know how to change it back

But we're thinking of a Fleet cutback - I just it would be nice photo chance while they were all together 8)

Oddly enough, I have a friend who may be in the market for a Griffith 500 at the moment. We were playing 'fantasy cars' last weekend [1] and top of his pile was the Griffith 500, and he's just been given wifely permission to get one.

Let me know if that's one of the ones you're looking to sell, and I'll check with my mate to see if he's interested.

Fantastic collection of cars though. I'm deeply jealous :)

[1] I settled for getting my 6 roadworthy.

About time for an update. The Audi died (like they all seem to do) so after much deliberation and some flirtation with some rare-ish supercars Mrs Sharkfan settled for a rather rapid commuter-mobile; a BMW 435d X-Drive M-Sport Cabriolet. We also moved house.... again.

I've got quite a ways to go to catch you!

I made a post on mye28.com about vehicle fleets and found it quite interesting to read others. Take a look:

Blimey, another 5 years have gone by but no change to the Fleet this time - I did put up a double garage to hide some cars from the elements and completely change the driveway/access. The wifes 435d is just out of shot...

Yep, still hiding round the corner under a cover - it did spend 8 months in the garage whilst the E38 was away for 'attention' but it's been pushed back out into the cold. It is now over 40 years old so will qualify as a 'Classic' under UK laws so no longer needs yearly tests or road tax after I apply to change its status in January. I think I will probably pop it up for sale in Spring next year. I haven't the time, space or funds to keep them all in tip-top condition now.

When I took the photo above I had to open the garage side door so it could spotted

Good stuff :D

It's an enviable collection of motor vehicles, and has been for a long time.

It's great that you've been able to continue keeping such a nice array of driver's cars all these years, all in good order, all looking like they'd be a blast to drive.

How are prices in your area these days for a car like the Sixer, if you were to sell it?

There's been a marked increase in selling prices here over the last 3-4 years. I was able to increase my insurance value four-fold this year.

I saw my old mate Paul's agate green 6er on a local car sales website earlier this year. He sold it a few years ago, and whoever's had it since then has done a major amount of restoration and repair to it. The sales listing included respray, suspension replace, transmission rebuild, new exhaust, drive shaft, lots of electrical work, seats reupholstered - it was quite a list. And the car looked a million bucks in the pictures.

The ad had it for over $60,000 - I don't know what it actually sold for, but it is sold!
